Video Game

Heinee Hinrichsen is a video game artist and director. I am best known for my work at Sculptured Software / Acclaim Studios as an artist, animator and director on Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1992), Space Jam (1996), Looney Tunes B-Ball (1994) as well as The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare (1993) and The Ren & Stimpy Show: Time Warp (1994). I also did work for  Sensory Sweep Studios as a User Interface Lead and Particle Effects artist. I worked on The Tale of Desperaux (2008).

Based on the movie of the same name, The Tale of Despereaux stars Despereaux, the mouse with the big ears, who is not afraid of anything. When the human Princess Pea is kidnapped, Despereaux goes to the rescue. Gameplay is the standard 3rd-person platforming and combat, with a focus on mouse-like agility. You can buy extra combat moves from the swash-buckling Caravaggio using cheese pieces or shiny buttons you find.

Bart Simpson has to stay up late and write a paper for class tomorrow. For once, he is determined to get a good mark. However, very quickly, he falls asleep. Nightmare after nightmare haunt his subconsciousness, and it is up to you to get over each one, so that Bart will eventually wake up.

Once a homework page has been found, the player can step through colored doors and engage in various mini-games. These involve Bart transforming into a “Bartzilla”, a giant monster out to destroy Springfield; swimming through Bart’s own bloodstream, using air pumps to kill germs; being attacked by Itchy and Scratchy, the duo from the meta-fictional violent cartoon; flying over the city as the superhero Bartman, fighting boss enemies; and exploring the treacherous columns in the Temple of Maggie as Indiana Bart.

In The Ren & Stimpy Show: Time Warp, the player takes command of the comedy duo on a quest through time to stop Stimpy’s beloved hero, Muddy Mudskipper, from changing history and ruining space and time.

There are also various obstacles and traps the players must avoid, like the Crockostimpy and the Happy Helmet which will temporarily incapacitate the player until it is knocked off their head. The player can find health power-ups to restore their health and earn points by picking up money symbols. The game also features the voice talents of Billy West.
